Water strategy - south east england

Nicola is leading on the South East Water Strategy with Southern Water, Thames Water, Environment Agency, DEFRA, WaterUK & other Water Utilities Companies to look at the way we use, lose & treat water.

Project Objective

Inspired by a drive for better Environmental Sustainability & the all important UN Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs), Nicola believes that these 17 categories really are the basis for jobs and careers of the future.

Being an island it is easy to think water IS everywhere, plus inland we have plenty of Rivers, Lakes, Reservoirs & don't forget the unforgivable downpours, however:

'Freshwater makes up a very small fraction of all water on the planet. While nearly 70 percent of the world is covered by water, only 2.5 percent of it is fresh. The rest is saline and ocean-based. Even then, just 1 percent of our freshwater is easily accessible, with much of it trapped in glaciers and snowfields.  In essence, only 0.007 percent of the planet's water is available to fuel and feed its 6.8 billion people.' (Source National Geographic).

Working with the various partners (which continue to grow) has given her even more insight, knowledge and passion for clean, waste, grey and behavioural change with water.

What is Diligence contributing to this project?

Nicola is working with Government Agencies, Water Companies & Sustainability Specialists to look at the way in which we can help everyone be more conscious of this finite & essential building block for life.

Nicola is not afraid to state that there are barriers to being more sustainable in water due in part to legislative or regulatory restrictions imposed since privatisation.  With the modern world using all utilities in so many different ways, the policy, rules & regulations need to be reviewed to ensure we are able to live and protect all in our environment.
