SAPHIRES, QUEEN AND GREENWICH

Congratulations to Her Majesty the Queen, 65 years a monarch and her Sapphire Jubilee on 6 February 2017, that was last Monday.

It was 5 years ago that we last really celebrated true British occasions like the true Brits we are, albeit there were 90th birthday tea parties, but no where near the euphoria of 2012 when:

  1. Her Majesty reopened the Cutty Sark following its restoration
  2. It was the Golden Jubilee Year
  3. The Borough of Greenwich became the Royal Borough of Greenwich
  4. London 2012 Olympics
  5. I broke my leg...

OK so I certainly didn't celebrate item 5, but wow, what a year that was!

Honestly, for me it is a case of how time flies and gives an insight into my brain as I recall the events above (and many more from that year, but I don't want to bore you!)

This top 5 does have a bit of a theme - I was born in Greenwich and will forever be proud of having been. The Cutty Sark landed in dry dock through the kindness of HRH Duke of Edinburgh as a memorial to the Merchant Navy in 1954. She is known as 'my boat', within my family, reflecting the fact that when I was a newborn Mum and Dad lived just along from the dry dock, above what was then a model shop and what is now a baby clothes shop. Our family ties in the area included Grandad and Nan's W. A. Brook Jewellers in Trafalgar Road, and my other Grandparents lived in Tuskar Street.

Anyway, I was the only one of the 4 Roberts children to have been born in London and I love it! I love the pie, mash and liquor, jellied eels and patriotism which comes of growing somewhere so fondly loved by the previous generations of monarchs. Perhaps that is why my husband calls me 'Princess La La'?

But this year, rather than all the flotillas and bunting - our Queen Elizabeth II has celebrated privately at her estate in Sandringham. There's been no day given as a holiday this year, but I did honour her Sapphire Jubilee in one of the ways I honour lots of things...with patriotic socks!

So, it seems fitting that in Her Majesty's 65th Year on the throne, I make sure there are celebrations! I intend to give Diligence (PM) Services Ltd an official business launch in my favourite London Borough and in a special majestic building...The Queens House, Greenwich.

Who wants an invite?

PS In my usual weird way of 'in' tangible links...my birthstone is Sapphire, so even more reason to celebrate the Queen's Sapphire Jubilee with a Diligence launch!
