volunteering by diligence

Diligence recognise the importance of making a positive difference to the community.  We actively support volunteering and as well as our Charities, we support the fundraising and challenges of our Customers.

Here is just a little about our efforts so far...

Volunteering by our people

Both Nicola and Alison undertake work in their community by volunteering with The Scout Association. 1st North Cray Scout Group was founded in 1911 and has an amazing history, but in recent years it had declined down to just 3 members.

Joining 1st North Cray in July 2015, we set about building what is now a great for the new team and already members have more than trebled with new members joining each term. All the Leaders and Group Executive give up their time willingly for more than an hour a week (Scout joke!) and are part of an incredible rejuvenation of a local co-education, youth led and active Scout Group in Bexley.

With this in mind, Diligence is also proud to help with occasional sponsorship or Giving Time for events which would otherwise be taken up by people's holiday allowance.

Speculate so we can accumulate!  That was the Challenge set by Basepoint, so activate the Diligence grey matter and how we could fundraise to make that £50 note into as much money as possible for The Friends of the Wisdom Hospice.

"Thanks to our sponsors at Basepoint Chatham, we'll make even more money as they are match funding the £50s we give out."

Well, Diligence decided to mix helping a new start business (Steve Hookins) with supporting the Hospice and organised a 'Horrible Histories for Adults' event.  At just £5 per ticket, including drinks and nibbles (provided by Diligence and ECA, plus donations and a raffle, (thank you to The Orchard Garage for increasing sales and pulling the raffle!)the evening raised £150.  The Directors at Diligence agreed to match the amount raised and a payment of £300 was proudly made directly to the Hospice.

On the night everyone seemed to 'enjoy' the rude and obnoxious Mr Warden, who directed the (un)willing audience to black out tasks and offered some rather dubious innuendos!  He tried to knock people out with metal objects and of course, 'women, know your limits'!

It was a really fun evening despite it sounding rather uncouth, with Legacy HS Ltd really stepping up to the mark to promote themselves and show how life was like for those in World War 2.

It was a special evening, one of the Diligence Team came back via the Hospice after a Kent Invicta Chamber event, wondering if the Wisdom Hospice was the place her nan had been in back in 1997.  Sure enough it was and therefore it seemed even more apt to ensure this fundraiser was a success.

A - Z of London on Wheels

Originally planned as an abseil down ‘The Orbit’ at the Olympic Park, one week to go and we had a call to say all abseils were cancelled. There was no explanation, just an "it's cancelled."

Undeterred, we decided on what could be a harder challenge. A-Z of London....on Wheels. In other words, using a wheelchair we would take it in turns to visit the beautiful sights of London.

As a ‘Giving Day’, Diligence granted the day off without our people losing money or holiday and also provided a donation to help the fundraising for Huntington’s Disease Association and Parkinson’s UK.
